Timber Finishes

Our timber finishes are crafted from American oak. Our Natural Oak is fully sealed for a smooth, refined finish, while our Whitewash Oak allows you to feel the natural grain for a more relaxed, textured look.

Our painted pieces use premium birchwood, chosen for its smooth surface and ability to hold paint beautifully.

All of our furniture is handmade and hand-finished. Minor imperfections, including fine hairline cracks (particularly on joins in painted finishes), are considered normal characteristics of solid timber furniture and are not grounds for refund or replacement.

FAQs

What is a console table and where is it used?

A console table is a long, narrow table meant to sit against a wall or behind a sofa. You’ll often find it in entryways (holding keys or mail) or behind living room sofas (with lamps or photos on top). Because of its slim profile, it’s perfect for adding function and style in tight spaces without blocking walkways.

What does “flatpack console table” mean?

“Flatpack” means the table ships unassembled in flat pieces (common for ready-to-assemble furniture). A flatpack console table will include all parts and hardware for you to put together at home. This makes transport easier and often reduces cost, while the finished table still looks like a regular console.

How do I style a console table?

Place a large mirror or artwork above it to make the space feel larger. On the surface, arrange items like a decorative tray for keys, a couple of books, vases, or lamps. For example, a pair of matching table lamps at each end and a vase or sculpture in the center create an elegant entryway display. Keep the look uncluttered by varying heights and leaving some empty space for balance.

What is the best console table size for my home?

This of course depends on the space. Most console tables are between 75–85 cm high, with widths ranging from 90 cm for compact spaces,  150 cm for standard entryways, and 2m for larger areas.. For narrow spaces, choose a depth of 30–40 cm to maintain easy traffic flow or a curved console which has less corners to bump into.

Should I choose a console table with storage?

This really varies widely from client to client.  Most people opt for a console table with drawers and a shelf underneath. If you're using your console in an entryway, storage is very practical for items like:

  • Keys and wallets
  • Sunglasses and dog leads
  • Mail and notebooks
  • School bags and shoes on the shelf

For other clients, they prefer not to have drawers, especially if the console is in the living area— these customers want to focus instead on styling the surface space and have no need for extra storage.

Why do we use dark brass knobs on all furniture?

At Style My Home, we finish all of our furniture with dark brass knobs—and that’s no accident. After years of design trials and customer feedback, we’ve found that dark brass is the most timeless and versatile hardware finish for Hamptons interiors and in fact any interiors whether the design aesthtic is modern, traditional, industrial or farmhouse.

Here’s why we love it:

  •  It looks more expensive. Dark brass instantly adds a touch of understated luxury and depth. Compared to brighter finishes like chrome or silver, it gives furniture a refined, high-end look without feeling flashy.
  • It won’t date. Hardware trends come and go, but we believe dark brass remains a classic. We’ve tested other finishes like brushed silver and nickel, but over time, they’ve proven less enduring in both style and durability. Sticking with dark brass helps ensure your furniture stays elegant and current for years to come.
  •  It works with everything. Whether your furniture is painted white, black, or in a timber finish, dark brass complements a wide variety of colour palettes and decorating styles—from traditional Hamptons to modern farmhouse.

In short, we’ve learned that keeping hardware simple and timeless is key to creating pieces that never go out of style. That’s why dark brass is our go-to finish across our entire range.
