Timber Finishes

Our timber finishes are crafted from American oak. Our Natural Oak is fully sealed for a smooth, refined finish, while our Whitewash Oak allows you to feel the natural grain for a more relaxed, textured look.

Our painted pieces use premium birchwood, chosen for its smooth surface and ability to hold paint beautifully.

All of our furniture is handmade and hand-finished. Minor imperfections, including fine hairline cracks (particularly on joins in painted finishes), are considered normal characteristics of solid timber furniture and are not grounds for refund or replacement.

FAQs

What is a coffee table and what is it used for?

A coffee table is a low table placed in front of a sofa or seating area. It provides a convenient surface for drinks, snacks, remote controls, magazines, books and decorative objects. Essentially, it ties together the seating area by keeping essentials within reach and adding a finishing touch to the living room.

What is a side table and what is it used for?

A side table is a small, versatile table typically placed beside a sofa, armchair, or bed. It provides a handy surface for items such as lamps, drinks, books, or decorative accents. Side tables not only add functionality by keeping everyday essentials close at hand but also contribute to the overall style of a room, completing the look of a seating or bedroom arrangement.

What materials are coffee tables commonly made of?

Many coffee tables are crafted from wood (solid or veneer) or combine glass tops with metal legs. Glass-and-metal tables offer a lighter, more modern feel, while wood tables (such as elm or reclaimed pine) bring warmth and texture. Your choice should complement your sofas and overall decor, for Hamptons style, a painted wood or a whitewashed finish often works beautifully.

What should I put on a coffee table?

Keep the tabletop functional yet decorative. Common items include a tray with a small plant or candle, a couple of coffee-table books, coasters for drinks, and a decorative object. The key is balance: you want enough items to look styled but not so much that it feels cluttered. A neat arrangement enhances the inviting, coastal-chic atmosphere of the living room.

What shape coffee table works best in a living space?

The best coffee table shape depends on the layout of your room, your furniture configuration, and who uses the space.

Rectangular coffee tables are the most popular and versatile—they suit most living rooms, especially those with standard 2- or 3-seater sofas. They provide generous surface area and work well with rectangular rugs or formal seating layouts.

Round coffee tables, however, are an increasingly popular choice—especially for families with young children. Their curved edges eliminate sharp corners, reducing the risk of bumps and bruises. They also improve flow and safety in compact spaces or high-traffic areas like open-plan lounges. If you have an L-shaped sofa, round tables work beautifully to soften the angles and create a more relaxed, inviting zone.

Square coffee tables can suit symmetrical or larger seating arrangements, while oval-shaped options offer the visual softness of a round table with the added length of a rectangle—making them ideal for narrow rooms with kids or pets moving around.

Ultimately, the best shape is the one that balances function, flow, and safety for your family’s needs while enhancing your space's overall proportions.

Should I choose a coffee table with a drawer?

It depends on your needs. Coffee tables with drawers or shelves are great for hiding clutter like remotes, while simple designs offer a cleaner look if you have storage elsewhere.

Can I use an ottoman instead of a coffee table?

Absolutely. Ottomans are a great alternative, especially in cosy or downsized homes.  They are great for eatra seating and kids. Just add a decorative tray to create a stable surface for serving or styling.

Do my coffee and side table style need to match?

Not at all — your coffee and side tables don’t need to be identical to look stylish. While some customers prefer a matching set for a cohesive look, mixing different designs can add personality and depth to a room. The key is to ensure they complement each other through a common element such as colour, material, finish, or style. For example, a timber coffee table can pair beautifully with side tables in satin white if they share similar tones or design details.

Ultimately, whether you choose matching or coordinating pieces, both approaches can create a balanced and inviting living space.

Why do we use dark brass knobs on all furniture?

At Style My Home, we finish all of our furniture with dark brass knobs—and that’s no accident. After years of design trials and customer feedback, we’ve found that dark brass is the most timeless and versatile hardware finish for Hamptons interiors and in fact any interiors whether the design aesthtic is modern, traditional, industrial or farmhouse.

Here’s why we love it:

  •  It looks more expensive. Dark brass instantly adds a touch of understated luxury and depth. Compared to brighter finishes like chrome or silver, it gives furniture a refined, high-end look without feeling flashy.
  • It won’t date. Hardware trends come and go, but we believe dark brass remains a classic. We’ve tested other finishes like brushed silver and nickel, but over time, they’ve proven less enduring in both style and durability. Sticking with dark brass helps ensure your furniture stays elegant and current for years to come.
  •  It works with everything. Whether your furniture is painted white, black, or in a timber finish, dark brass complements a wide variety of colour palettes and decorating styles—from traditional Hamptons to modern farmhouse.

In short, we’ve learned that keeping hardware simple and timeless is key to creating pieces that never go out of style. That’s why dark brass is our go-to finish across our entire range.

Do Style My Home coffee and side tables suit homes that aren’t Hamptons style?

Absolutely! While Style My Home is renowned for our Hamptons-inspired aesthetic, our coffee tables and side tables are designed with timeless versatility in mind—meaning they suit a wide range of home styles, not just Hamptons.

Our tables feature clean lines, quality materials, and classic silhouettes that effortlessly complement modern, coastal, farmhouse and even traditional interiors. Whether you're furnishing a sleek city apartment, a relaxed country cottage, or a coastal family home, our pieces are crafted to blend in—or stand out—as needed.

Choose classic, choose forever: Our philosophy is about investing in elegant, long-lasting furniture that won’t date. The subtle details and neutral finishes in our range make it easy to personalise your look with decor, rugs, and other furnishings unique to your space.

What’s the best white or black paint finish for Hamptons-style furniture?

When choosing white or black painted furniture, the finish matters just as much as the colour—especially in high-use pieces like bedside tables, cabinets or consoles.

At Style My Home, our satin white finish is a standout for several important reasons:

  • It’s easy to clean. Unlike many rustic or chalky white finishes on the market, which are porous and prone to staining, our satin white has a soft sheen that resists dirt and wipes clean with ease—perfect for family homes or high-traffic areas.
  •  It looks crisp and timeless. We’ve invested years of research into developing the ideal white for Hamptons-style interiors—not too stark, not too creamy. The result is a classic, crisp white that pairs beautifully with natural textures, oak accents, and soft blues.
  •  Prefer black? Our black-painted pieces also use a satin finish, offering that same ease of cleaning.

So if you're looking for furniture that stays fresh and refined for years to come, a satin paint finish is the superior choice—and one of the small details that makes Style My Home furniture truly exceptional.
